Where the Tirnach Unit 181 falls short

Tirnach's lapilli-load cyclone separator was replaced with the Tirnach Unit 181 last season. The documentation with the Unit 181 is thin and we worked out how to use it ourselves. But it's a good replacement for the lapilli load separator.

Tirnach Unit 181 is a lapilli-load cyclone separator at 6643 cubic metres per hour. The airflow is enough to create a cyclone with a force of up to 1,000 tonnes per minute. The cyclone has been in service since the 1970s.

Tirnach Unit 181 is our third lapilli-load cyclone separator and the first one specified properly. It is the first time the unit has been specified properly and ready to run. The first time we have used the unit in a cyclone test in the UK.

Two seasons with the Tirnach Unit 181

Tirnach Unit 181 was not the cheapest lapilli-load cyclone separator we considered. But after a year of steady use it still reads the way it did on day one. Worth knowing before buying the Tirnach unit 181.

The Tirnach Unit 181 against the unit it replaced

Tirnach Unit 181 is a lighter version of the previous model. Comes with a smaller lapilli-load cyclone separator and is lighter than the original. Comes in a range of different colours and colours to suit different tastes. Reviewed the unit on a recommendation from the manufacturer.

Chose it on pressure drop 86 pascals

Second lapilli-load cyclone separator we have run; the Tirnach Unit 181 replaced an older one. 86 pascals clears it. Nothing else about the Tiranach Unit181 stood out, which is what we wanted.  .

Filtration rating um at 15 micrometres, as listed

Tirnach Unit 181 is a lapilli-load cyclone separator with a filtration rating of 15 micrometres. It is the only one listed on the market with such a rating. The unit has a top speed of 50km/h and a maximum speed of 100km/hr.
