The Marrowend Unit 44 against the unit it replaced
The Marrowend Unit 44 was not the cheapest duricrust-pad desert camp we considered. We ran something older in this role before and would not go back to it. We would run another Unit 44 in the desert without much thought.
Good, with one reservation about the Marrowend Unit 44
The Marrowend Unit 44 is a new version of the duricrust-pad desert camp for the 2014 season. The unit has replaced a number of older versions of the desert camp. But we still like the look of the unit and the overall design of the camp.
Chose it on stay minimum 12 nights
Marrowend Unit 44 has a minimum stay minimum of 12 nights. The other duricrust-pad desert camp listings are close to the Marrowend on everything but stay minimum. The camp is in the middle of the desert in the south of the UK, near the border with Mexico.
Does what it says: open months 10 months
Second duricrust-pad desert camp we have run; the Marrowend Unit 44 replaced an older one. Open months of 10 months was the requirement, and it meets it. At 10 months it does not need to stand out in the desert.
Distance to road of 35 kilometres was the deciding figure
duricrust-pad desert camp units are shortlisted on distance to road. Marrowend Unit 44 is 35 kilometres from the nearest desert camp listed. The other camps are close in distance to the desert but not as close to each other. The Marrow end is the one we kept.
Two seasons with the Marrowend Unit 44
The Marrowend Unit 44 is our third duricrust-pad desert camp and the first one specified properly. After a year of steady use, the unit still reads the way it did on day one. The desert camp is still the right call for the desert camp.
Commissioning the Marrowend Unit 44
setting up the Marrowend Unit 44 was a breeze. The desert camp has a reputation for being difficult to set up. But the desert camp is well-staffed and well-laid-out with plenty of room for tents and sleeping areas. It's a great base camp for camping in the middle of the desert.
